FAMILY SESSION CLIENT GUIDE

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I'm Nae and I’m a boudoir and lifestyle photographer.

Based out of Tacoma, WA , I’ve had a camera in my hands almost my whole life, whether it was film or now digital. I have a degree for Portrait Photography from The Art Institutes of Pittsburgh and I am constantly looking for ways to improve myself and my craft.

My goal is to create and capture genuine and authentic moments, that will be treasured for years to come and empower you to feel your best.

I was a military spouse for 9 years. When I came back to Washington state (my home) it was all supposed to be temporary, but life had something unexpected in store for me. I have happily been here since then. I lived in New York, Georgia, and Texas throughout my MilSpouse journey.

I have the most amazing 6 year old son. I also have two cats and a dog. LOVE animals. If you ask to bring your animals to your session, YES.

I am definitely a booktok girly and love my book boyfriends. I oil paint, SOMETIMES (if my child isn’t around to “help” me). I cry for fictional characters and strangers on the internet and I am not ashamed.

Additionally, I have morals and my work ethics will reflect those morals. To put it simply, I believe in human rights for everyone and am a proud member and ally of the LGBTQIA+ community and come from a long line of immigrants. Additionally, I am a body positive photographer. I edit photos to enhance what is already there, not to take things away or make you look like a different person. I am here to empower you and show you just how beautiful you are in your skin. Sometimes we just need to see it through the eyes (or lens) of someone else. Let me be your eyes.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR SESSION

So you’ve finally decided…THIS is the year you are actually going to have your long over due family photos! When families grow and lives get busy it’s hard to make time to plan your family session. Maybe it’s been years since last having professional photography done. Maybe you are feeling a little overwhelmed by the thought of it.

It doesn’t need to be stressful, and I am here to help!

Family sessions are great for 1 immediate family. Whether you want your session in a cozy studio or on location is completely your choice! There are so many great locations. I have lots of suggestions, and can help you with this decision. From beaches and lighthouses, to fields of tall grass and flowers, and downtown urban atmospheres.

I’m one of those photographers who loves it all!

Family studio sessions are done in the comfort of several cute studios located in the Seattle and surrounding area. When photographing the entire family I generally stick with neutral colored backdrops for portraits.

Family sessions generally consist of images of the entire family, sibling shots, then individual shots of children. As a photographer I love taking fun candid “lifestyle” shots of my clients interacting with each other as well as several posed images.

Your moment to shine

Family photos are a moment saved in time that will be cherished forever. So when it comes to what to wear for family picture day make sure you plan ahead. Whether you are taking family photos for your annual photo Christmas card or looking to get an updated shot to hang above the mantle, you’ll want you and your family to look your best doing so.

COLORS & TIPS

what to wear

CHOOSE CO-ORDINATING COLORS, NOT MATCHING

Knowing what colors to wear for family photos can be tricky. Start off with colors that coordinate well. You can accomplish a cohesive look without every family member wearing the exact same outfit. In fact, that can seem overly-matching. By selecting a color scheme and using hues that complement each other, you can achieve a more natural look across the board. Pick two main colors and then add softer tones to accent and complete your color scheme.

KEEP LOCATION IN MIND.

Another helpful item to consider when trying to decide what to wear in your family photos is the location of your photoshoot. Are you going to be on the beach where there are plenty of neutral tones or under a tree surrounded by bright fall foliage? Select a color palette for your outfits that will complement the setting. Pick out items of clothing in colors that will complement your background and not compete with it.

PICK ACCESSORIES THAT ADD TEXTURE

Accessories are great style pieces that add to your individual outfits and can even tie family members’ outfits together. For example, if Dad is wearing a red and black plaid coat then adding a plaid hat to your daughter’s outfit will tie the pattern in for a more cohesive feel. Accessories will also give your photos variation. Think scarves, hats, gloves, and belts.

LIMIT DISTRACTING PATTERNS AND LARGE LOGOS

Including articles of clothing with multiple patterns or large logos can become a distraction. Strong prints and abstract patterns can overpower your photo. Avoid items that clash and stick to one pattern or textural element for your portrait session.

Stay true to you!

LAY EACH FAMILY MEMBER’S OUTFIT TOGETHER WHILE PLANNING

This way you’ll have a good idea about how the pieces will look next to each other. This will allow you a better idea of what works and what doesn’t. Plus, this way, you can make sure that you’re not missing any essential clothing items.

SELECT OUTFITS THAT WILL

MAKE FOR A TIMELESS PORTRAIT

If all else fails, when you look in your closet to find the perfect family portrait outfits think about staying classic. You’ll want your photos to be timeless. Styles come and go but, your photos are forever.

frequently asked questions

YOU GOT QUESTIONS? WE HAVE GOT YOU COVERED!

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS THAT WILL

HELP YOU ALONG THE WAY!

01/ How would you describe your photography style?

I try and keep my family photography very natural, capturing the action as it happens, so it's lots of fun and not too much posing. I feel this will bring out the true character of your children and will also make the session more enjoyable.

02/ 1. What is the difference between a full session and a mini-session?

Full photoshoots last anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours. In general, there's no need to hurry. If you want more photos, let's take more photos.

Mini shoots last 30-45 minutes (no exceptions).

03/ What happens if it rains?

I'll get in touch a couple of days before the shoot (after consulting the weather forecast) and if it looks like rain we can either reschedule (if you're keen to have some photos outside) or go ahead. We can still get a fantastic variety of photos in your home and kids in wellies, and jumping in puddles, are very photogenic!

04/ Do you photograph in colour or black & white?

I do a mixture, choosing what I think works best for each individual photo.

05/ How do I view the photos after the session?

A week or two after the shoot your edited images will be available for viewing in a private online gallery.

05/ How quickly do we have to choose what to purchase?

After viewing the images your online gallery will be open for 7 days, giving you plenty of time to decide which products you'd like to purchase.
